THE Northern Districts Rebels and Valleys Cricket have secured convincing wins in the second day of their matches during the opening round of the North Coast Cricket Council’s Premier League season.
The Rebels claimed the second innings points against the Coffs Colts in Woolgoolga, while Valleys Cricket took the honours against Harwood in Macksville.
Resuming at 4/69 after the Rebels had bowled them out for 41 and declared at 3/163 on Day 1, the Colts were bowled out for 147 on Day 2 with Matt Rose finishing on 45 not out.
Rebels bowlers Taj Dosanjh and Humraj Signh continued their fine form from the opening day as Dosanjh took 6/28 from his 13 overs while Singh took 3/41 from 16 overs.
Dosanjh took 11 wickets for the match while Singh took 8 wickets.
Valleys Cricket also secured a convincing opening round win in their two-day match against Harwood at Phillip Hughes Oval.
Chasing Valleys first day total of 9/268 declared, Harwood were bowled out for 158 with Valleys starting their season in style with a 110-run victory at home.
Jared Baldwin took 3/16 from his 9 overs while Ben Pierce took 2/30 in his 12 overs for Valleys.
Trent Statham also bowled an economical spell taking 1/10 from his 7 overs.
The North Coast Cricket Council’s Premier League season continues this Saturday with the opening day of two-day matches in Round 2 at Coffs Harbour and Harwood.
After having the opening round bye, deafening champions Sawtell will look to open their season with a win when they take on the competition’s newest club the Coffs Colts at the Coffs Coast Hockey Fields.
The Northern Districts Rebels will look to make it two wins in a row to start the season when they travel to take on Harwood.
