Northern Districts and Valleys Cricket in commanding postions

THE NORTHERN Districts Rebels are in a commanding position after day one of their two-day match against the Coffs Colts in Woolgoolga, during the opening round of the North Coast Cricket Council’s Premier League season.

The Rebels ripped through the Colts batting line-up bowling them out for 41, with two bowlers at their destructive best.

Rebels captain Taj Dosanjh produced a scintillating spell taking 5/5 from his 6 overs, while Humraj Singh also took 5 wickets taking 5/30 from his 8.5 overs.

The Rebels declared at 3/163 with a 122 run first innings lead, with their openers doing the bulk of the scoring with Damon Rootes top scoring with 66 and Mark Maharaj scoring 53.

The Colts will resume on day two at 4/69, as Taj Dosanjh and Humraj Singh continued their brilliant bowling taking two wickets each in the second innings so far.

After such a dominant bowling performance, Rebels captain Taj Dosanjh was pleased with his side’s top start to the season.

“It was good to get the Day 1 win, and the wicket was providing plenty of assistance early on,” he said.

Valleys Cricket are also in a commanding position after the opening day of their match against Harwood at Phillip Hughes Oval.

Valleys finished the day declaring on 9/268, thanks largely to a brilliant knock from Brodie Bartlett who finished on 105 for the first century of the new season.

Harry Bird also made a valuable contribution finishing on 51 while Sam Elder scored 48.

The second day of the opening round matches are scheduled to be played this Saturday.
