One game for glory.
The Sawtell/Toormina Saints and Grafton Tigers face off for the 2020 AFL North Coast premiership during a huge grand final day at the Ce.x Coffs International Stadium on Saturday.
This year’s grand final pits a perennial powerhouse in the Saints against a Tigers team who have turned things around dramatically this season after a number of recent wooden spoons.
The Saints will be trying to add another premiership to their trophy cabinet having won four of the last six grand finals, while the Tigers look for their first premiership since 2012.
The Saints will have to do something they haven’t done this season if they are to win this year’s flag- beat the Tigers.
The Saints are yet to beat this year’s minor premiers having drawn once and lost three times in their four meetings this season.
The Saints head into the premiership decider on the back of a 35-point win in their semi-final against the Coffs Harbour Breakers, while the Tigers lost their final round match by a goal to the Breakers before having the week off by virtue of finishing as minor premiers.
The Coffs Harbour Breakers will look for the perfect end to a perfect season when they take on the Northern Beaches Blues in the third ever AFL North Coast women’s grand final.
The Breakers head into the season decider having been unbeaten all year, as they face off against a Blues team who have reached the grand final in their first season as a stand-alone women’s team.
The Breakers and Blues will be gunning to win their club’s first women’s premiership, with the Breakers having won all four meetings this season, including their last match by 62 points.
The Nambucca Valley Lions will be aiming to cap off a season of dominance when they play the Coffs Harbour Breakers in the reserves grand final.
The Lions have been undefeated this season in the club’s return to senior competition after an eight-year absence.
The Lions will be heavy favourites for the premiership decider having won both of their meetings against the Breakers this season by an average of 49 points.
The Sawtell/Toormina Saints have set the benchmark this season having been undefeated in season 2020.
Now they need just one more win to cap off their dominant season when they play the Grafton Tigers in the season decider on Saturday.
The Saints have rarely been challenged this season and beat the Tigers by 51 points the last time they met.
