Boambee FC and Coffs City United have set the benchmark in recent seasons.
The two powerhouses of Coffs Harbour football will meet in a knockout blockbuster at Ce.x Coffs International Stadium.
The Bombers and Lions are scheduled to meet in the fifth round of the FFA Cup on Thursday, May 2.
Fresh off their recent grand final rematch, the two sides will play off for a chance to progress in the nation-wide knockout competition.
Both clubs have had their nervous moments so far in this year’s FFA Cup.
Boambee had to survive a penalty shootout against Port United in the third round, before a thumping 7-1 win against the South Armidale Scorpions saw them progress to the fifth round.
The Lions were tied at 2-2 in the second half of their fourth-round fixture against Woolgoolga Wolves, before a Caleb Lokpo goal in the 72nd minute sent them through to the fifth round.
Boambee FC will head into the match as favourites having won six straight matches against the Lions.
But the FFA Cup is renowned for it’s surprises, and with the Lions currently sitting on top of the Ce.x Group Men’s Premier League ladder they pose a tough proposition for the reigning premiers.
Before they meet in their FFA Cup fixture, the clubs will take part in the fourth round of the Ce.x Group Men’s Premier League on Saturday, April 27.
The Bombers travel to take on the Woolgoolga Wolves, while the Lions host the Maclean Bobcats.
